Greg Davies will play York Barbican on November 2 NEXT year (2017) on his You Magnificent Beast tour, his first stand-up show in four years.

The 6ft 8in comedian with the size 13 feet and a past career in teaching has starred as irascible teacher Dan in Man Down, psychotic teacher Mr Phil Gilbert in The Inbetweeners and right-on solicitor and history buff Ken Thompson in Cuckoo, as well as hosting the comedy game show Taskmaster on the Dave channel.

Currently starring in the C4 comedy series Man Down, Davies says: “I was a very unhappy teacher for a long time – for 13 years – and I think I’ve mined that period that felt directionless. I mean obviously I had an awful lot of fun and I hope that’s where the fun in this show comes from – watching a man disintegrate a little bit as a lot of us do in our lives at some point.

I think being a teacher helped me to play Dan because he’s the sort of a person who’s in the wrong job. I wasn’t a very organised or thorough teacher. I think probably the kids who I taught will agree that we had quite a lot of fun, but I’m not sure how much I really taught them.”

Davies last played York in October 2012 when presenting The Back Of My Mum’s Head at the Grand Opera House. The show’s title came from his mother saying to him throughout childhood, and sometimes more recently, after he has done something stupid, “That’s not normal, love". She would then leave the room, affording him a view of the back of her head.
