It is thought the incident happened between midnight on Tuesday, September 16 and the morning of Wednesday.

Extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area both to carry out enquiries and to reassure any residents who may be concerned.

Officers are appealing for information and asking any witnesses to come forward.

Neighbourhood Inspector Cheryl Warcup said: "It may be the cow was shot by accident or it could have been a deliberate act, either way it's important we know what happened so that appropriate action can be taken if necessary."
