A BBC MasterChef finalist has returned to Darlington College to inspire the next generation.

Danny Parker, from Bishopton, near Stockton, finished fourth in the latest TV series MasterChef: The Professionals and is currently head chef at the House of Tides restaurant in Newcastle.

The 25-year-old started as a pot washer at The Talbot in Bishopton aged 14 and studied catering at Darlington College between 2006 and 2009.

Speaking at the College’s Hell’s Kitchen themed event this week, he said: “These students are the future generation of chefs in the region, it is great to see some excitement and passion from them and also that they are having fun.”

Mr Parker provided students with advice at the five course event on preparation and added finishing touches to dishes, which were prepared by Darlington College catering students and Armed Forces reserves.

He explained that experience for the students was crucial.

He said: “A lot of students get a real shock when they leave the classroom. It is good to give them something to aim for and for them to push themselves.”

He added: “This is where my journey started and in a short space of time I have pushed myself and I have learnt a lot since I was here.”
