POLICE say they are treating a house fire in Sunderland as arson.
Fire crews were called to a blaze in Byron Street, in the Southwick area of the city, at about 3.15pm yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police today said the fire is believed to have been started deliberately and is being treated as arson.
No one was injured in the fire, however extensive damage has been caused to the property.
Officers are carrying out inquiries and appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
