PARENTS and carers are being urged to pop along to one of the Durham County Council car seat clinics to find out if their child’s car seat is fitted correctly.

The clinics have been organised to support Child Safety Week, organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust and taking place next week (from June 1 to 7).

Events taking place nationally during the week aim to raise awareness of the risks associated with child accidents and how they can be prevented. In County Durham car seat clinics are taking place in Chester-le-Street and Bishop Auckland.

Paul Watson, Durham County Council’s road safety manager, said: “There are so many different makes, styles and versions of child car seats that it is unsurprising that so often the car seat is not always the best one for the car or proves difficult to fit securely.

“We urge anyone with the responsibility for carrying children in their car to pop along to one of the clinics where our expert will be on hand to give advice ensuring that parents and carers are providing the best protection they can for their children.”

Durham County Council’s Road Safety Team along with Lynne Hepworth, a leading expert on in car safety, will be available on Tuesday June 2 from 10am to 12.30pm at Woodhouse Close Children’s Centre, Walker Drive in Bishop Auckland and on Wednesday 3 June at Bullion Lane Children’s Centre, Gray Avenue, Chester le Street from 10am to 12.30pm.
