POLICE say the investigation into the murder of Jenny Nicholl will not fully close until the teenager's remains are found.

Ahead of the tenth anniversary of the 19-year-old's disappearance, detectives described her killer David Hodgson as "truly callous and heartless".

Hodgson was convicted of Jenny's murder in 2008, but has never revealed where he hid her body.

Retired North Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Sue Cross, who was the senior investigating officer who oversaw the murder investigation, said she thinks of Jenny often and regrets that the team was not able to find her.

The Northern Echo:
NOT CLOSED: Detective Chief Inspector Pete Martin, of North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime Unit, was the deputy senior investigating officer in the case

"Silly things might happen like a song coming on the radio that will take you right back to the case. You wonder where she is and if you missed any opportunity to find her.

"It would be wonderful if we could find her and give her back to Ann and Brian. As parents I think you're mindful that everybody needs the chance to say goodbye to someone they've lost."

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Martin, of North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime Unit, was the deputy senior investigating officer in the case.

He said his heart went out to Jenny's parents, Brian and Ann Nicholl, adding: "David Hodgson has shown not the slightest hint of remorse or humanity towards Jenny’s family throughout their ordeal. He is a truly callous and heartless individual.

“Ann and Brian know that North Yorkshire Police will never fully close the case until Jenny is found. If new information comes to light we will act upon it.

“The extensive search activity was focused in the Richmond area and it is still possible that a member of the public, for example someone walking in the area, may come across something of significance. Any such reports would be thoroughly reviewed and assessed to see if they could assist us in our search to find Jenny’s remains and bring closure for her family.”

Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option one, and pass details to the Force Control Room.
