POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision which left a pensioner in hospital.

The crash happened at 10am on Monday, July 6 outside the Kings Head pub in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, and involved a red Volvo S40 and a blue Toyota Auris.

The Volvo had been travelling south along Newgate Street, approaching the junction with Railway Street when it went across the road to its nearside and collided with the Toyota, which was parked up.

There was no-one in the Toyota at the time of the incident.

The collision was at low speed but the impact caused the Toyota to hit a road sign, while the Volvo struck the outside wall of the pub.

The driver of the Volvo, a 77-year-old woman from Sedgefield was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital where she was admitted to the coronary care unit. Her condition is described as stable.

Durham Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101.
