A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of head-butting a teenager who was in the way of the straws at a McDonalds.

The 16-year-old was in the queue at McDonalds in Darlington town centre on Sunday when he was attacked by an older man, apparently without provocation.

The slightly-built teenager said: “He was trying to get a straw and I didn’t realise I was in the way.

“He came towards me and just head-butted me, it really hurt.

“He then pushed me out of the door and tried to chase me down the street, saying he was going to kill me.”

The man then calmly returned to the restaurant and picked up his food.

Another diner said: "I can't believe he attacked a child in a place full of kids, it's an absolute disgrace."

Staff alerted the police and a man was arrested shortly afterwards.

Sgt Tony McDougall of Darlington Police said: “We received information that a man matching the description was seen on Tubwell Row.

“Two officers went along and were happy enough it was him – he was still carrying a McDonalds bag.”
