A CHARITY which supports crisis-hit families in the region is asking for Easter egg donations for disadvantaged children.

Voluntary organisation Safe Families for Children, which was set up by businessman and philanthropist Sir Peter Vardy, is launching its first Easter appeal.

It is hosting a family fun-day for children on Teesside this month in partnership with homeless charity Tickle the Tastebuds and is asking businesses and the public to donate eggs, chocolates and treats as well as Easter crafts and gifts.

Madeleine Costigan, from Wynyard, County Durham, who is organising the family fun day, said: "Easter is another big luxury that many families cannot afford.

“As most of our own children tuck in to dozens of chocolate eggs there are hundreds of children in our area who will receive nothing. When you think of children going without, it breaks your heart.

“We are hosting the family fun day to put smiles on the families’ faces and bring fun and laughter to people who face real troubles and struggles on a day-to-day basis.”

Tickle The Tastebuds, which was set up by Wendy Brading in 1999, operates from the centre throughout the year, providing hot food and support to homeless and vulnerable people.

The event will take place on Thursday March 31, at Thorntree Community Centre, Loxley Road, Middlesbrough. Safe Families for Children is also seeking cash donations or business sponsorship to help cover the cost of the event, including the bouncy castle, face painter and entertainment.
