A PENSIONER who has been missing from home for two days has this evening been found down an embankment next to a busy main road.

Archie Campbell, 82, was last seen leaving his home in the Parkside area of Darlington, at 2pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Durham Constabulary said tonight that he had been found next the the A66 between Blands Corner and The Northern Echo Arena.

He appears to be well but has been taken to hospital as a precaution to be checked over. His family are with him.

The police helicopter, mountain search and rescue teams and police dog units have all been involved in the search.

Members of Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team were called late on Wednesday and searched through the night.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called in to assist shortly before 1pm today, together with the North of Tyne and Northumberland Park Rangers Mountain Rescue teams.

Darlington Police Inspector Caroline Dawson thanked all those who had responded to the appeals for help in finding him

She said: "Thank you to everyone who has shared our posts, rang in with information and checked their gardens, sheds, garages, etc.

"The information provided by the public was crucial in directing our search.

"Thank you also to the volunteers from the regional mountain rescue teams who have also been involved in the search for Archie."
