RESIDENTS and businesses can have their say on a new plan which will help shape the future of their town.

The submission draft of the Great Aycliffe Neighbourhood Plan, developed by the town council, sets out policies that will help determine planning applications in the Newton Aycliffe area until 2036.

The plan aims to guide development, while protecting the character of the area and safeguarding open spaces and trees. If agreed, the neighbourhood plan would be an important document in deciding any planning applications going forward.

It has now reached the final consultation stage before being examined by an independent inspector. If approved by the inspector, a referendum will be held to decide if it should be adopted.

The plan can be viewed at durham.gov.uk/CDP. Paper copies are available at County Hall, Great Aycliffe Town Council and Newton Aycliffe Library. Comments can be made until 5pm on Friday, September 9, by calling 03000-261907, emailing spatialpolicy@durham.gov.uk, or writing to Spatial Policy, Room 4/24, County Hall, DH1 5UQ.
