POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in the early hours of this morning.

Two people were robbed of their mobile phones by a man weilding a machete at 2.30am on Westbury Street, Thornaby.

The 26-year-old female and 20-year-old male were approached by a male described as Asian, 5ft 8in tall and aged 20-21-years-old.

He made threats whilst in possession of a machete, before stealing two mobile phones.

He rode off on a cycle which was abandoned on Peel Street. The bike was picked up by an unknown male and female. The victims were left shaken but unhurt.

Police would like to speak to the female and male who recovered the bike, and any other residents who may have witnessed the incident.
