A TEENAGER ended up in A&E last night (Thursday, August 25) after GCSE exam result celebrations got out of hand.

Police in Spennymoor, County Durham, were called to a wooded area on the outskirts of the town where young people congregate and have been found drinking alcohol and starting fires.

Officers visited the site behind the White Moor Allotments, near Frog and Ferrett pub, and discovered a large number of youths, some of whom were intoxicated.

Alcohol was seized and the young people were dealt with, but one was found to have a deep wound to their leg and an ambulance was called.

A spokesperson for Spennymoor Neighbourhood Police Team said it was later discovered that another youth had thrown the glass towards them as a 'joke'.

The youngster was treated at the scene by officers and helped out of the wood, before they were taken to A&E.

He said: "The area is very isolated and this just explains the dangers of youths drinking alcohol.

"Parents please make sure you know where your children are especially when it's GCSE results night."

Anyone with information about where people under 18 have obtained alcohol is urged to call the team on 101.
