DARLINGTON’S Victorian heritage will be celebrated at an upcoming event.
The spirit of the era will be revived for a Grand Day Out at the Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum.
Visitors to the museum can enjoy a host of Victorian-themed activities on Sunday, September 25.
The event will celebrate 1842, when the former North Road Station was built to serve the Stockton and Darlington railway line.
A programme of activities includes mini-train rides, face painting and Victorian arts and crafts.
Families can also enjoy a Punch and Judy Show, a Flea Circus and balloon modelling before exploring a themed trail around the museum.
Sarah Gouldsbrough, Acting Manager at the Head of Steam, said:“The Victorian age was a time when travel by rail was hugely popular and Queen Victoria was the first British monarch to travel by train in 1842 – on the line which ran between London and Windsor.
“As well as the building itself, many of the exhibits in the museum date back to this era and we thought a Victorian theme was a great way to encourage visitors to explore the museum and have some fun at the same time.”
The event takes place between 10am and 4pm. Entry is £1 or free for family membership pass holders.
