MODEL railway enthusiasts are in for a treat next weekend when a National Trust property opens its doors to allow visitors to come and see the train layouts cared for by volunteers.

The first weekend in October is being celebrated as Ormesby Hall’s ‘Model Railway Weekend’ and visitors can find out more about the art of model railway building as well as get up close to the layouts to see them in full working order.

The three layouts are all mini versions based on real train stations and locations, including a model of Ormesby station which is now known as Marton station.

Children can come and control the Thomas the Tank Engine layout, which will also be on duty next weekend, managing the switches and running trains on the mini tracks. There’ll also be model making demonstrations with the model railway volunteers and the chance for people to have a go themselves.

For the special event and entry into the house and gardens admission charges are £2.50 for adults, £1 children, National Trust members and Under 5s are free.
