Morning host Lorraine Kelly has announced that she has contracted Covid-19 and will not be hosting until she is well.

The host wrote on Twitter this morning that she had contracted the virus over the weekend and praised the effect of the vaccine as she is “not too bad”.

She wrote: “Well the Covid has finally got me and I tested positive at the weekend. Thanks to the vaccine it’s not too bad and I hope to be back at work very soon. Huge thanks to @carolvorders who will be hosting @lorraine until I’m back.”

Carol Vorderman will be hosting Lorraine in her absence.

On Instagram she once again praised the work of the vaccine, writing: “The dreaded Covid has finally caught up with me. I am so thankful to the scientists who developed the vaccine.”

Fans and celebrities rushed to wish Lorraine a speedy recovery in the comments section. Labour Deputy Leader Angela Rayner wrote on Twitter “Hope you feel better soon” and Scottish comedian Janey Godley shared similar sentiments, writing “Aw pal stay well.”

Lorraine did not confirm when she will be returning to presenting.
