A North Yorkshire firm where a worker died in a tragic industrial accident has responded for the first time.

A man working at the Cleveland Steel and Tubes Ltd (CST) site on the Dalton Industrial Estate died during an incident last Tuesday.

The man, who has not yet been named, was declared dead at the scene as there was a huge emergency service presence shortly after.

But today, the company confirmed further details as they said their thoughts and condolences are with the employee and his family.

In a statement today, a CST spokesperson said: "An accident occurred at CST on Tuesday the 8th of November and unfortunately an employee was declared deceased at the scene.

"Police and other emergency services attended the scene and clearly investigations are ongoing.

"Until the outcome of the investigation is known we cannot comment on the specific incident.

"Clearly our first thoughts are with the employee and his family and we extend our deepest condolences.

"CST is a small business in terms of numbers of staff and most staff are very long served so the impact on everyone in the business is our immediate concern.

"We will obviously continue to cooperate with the ongoing investigation."
