An investigation has been launched after a large fly-tip containing office and printing supplies was found in fields close to Darlington.

The rubbish dump, which contains business printing materials, was found in a farm entrance on the B6275 road Piercebridge, near the A68, on Wednesday, January 11.

While Darlington Borough Council is tracing the individuals involved, they recognise that someone may have paid someone in good faith to dispose of it for you.

As a result, the council has launched an investigation - and has asked people if they know any information about the incident, which has blighted the environment.

Cllr Mike Renton, the council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Please get in touch if you have any information to help us track down those responsible.

“We’d also like to remind businesses and householders to beware of businesses that only operate through social media and do not seem to have a landline phone number or business address, and also of those coming to their door offering to take away rubbish on the cheap.

“Please also remember you should always ask to see an operator's waste carrier licence, issued by Environment Agency, to ensure your waste is not dumped illegally.”
