Motorists are continuing to be hit with rising fuel prices at petrol stations across the region.

In the last week, prices have increased by up to 5p for a litre of unleaded at some forecourts, on the back of two consecutive months of price increases.

The wholesale price of petrol rose 6p a litre from 19 July on the back of the rising cost of oil with retailers wasting no time in passing this on to drivers as the average price has increased by nearly 2p, the RAC said.

The average cost of buying a litre of unleaded is currently 149.73p, according to the RAC, while the average price of a litre of diesel stands at 151.33p and is expected to rise further.

Earlier this month the RAC warned further price rises could be on the cards after the wholesale cost of a barrel of oil went up.
