A County Durham location branded 'unfortunate' has been featured in a viral video showing how houses are available for just £5,000.

In a video posted to YouTube, online presence 'Mads Out and About' visited the County Durham location of Horden to see what had become of the former pit village and see what life is like for those who still live there.

Within the video, the YouTuber looked around several streets and saw for sale signs over several sections of houses - with some available for just £5,000.

In the caption, 'Mads Out and About' said: "£5,000 houses for sale in Horden Colliery; once a thriving place to live but since the pit closed and the government has let places like this go to pot and waste away which is a great shame as there are some beautiful areas and people."

Later on in the video, the online presence looks around the back streets of Horden and sees boarded-up properties, and houses without windows.

Despite mentioning that it was a "real shame" that this had happened to Horden, he mentioned that similar had happened to former pit locations up and down the UK.

In the comment section of the video, people highlighted that Horden was 'unfortunate' and a 'ghost town', while others shared their fond memories of the colliery when they lived there.

One person said: "How sad, all the memories those streets hold. Such a shame in what looks like a nice place," while another added: "How sad. Especially when you think how many homeless people there are or families who can't afford to get on the property ladder."

Meanwhile, one commenter said: "You can just imagine all the kids and parents in the street chatting, playing footy and riding up and down on self-made go-karts."
