A popular seafront restaurant was damaged during a burglary at the weekend.

Raiders struck at Riley's Fish Shack, on King Edward's Bay in Tynemouth, forcing entry to the premises before fleeing the scene with a quantity of alcohol between Saturday and Sunday morning.

Managers to Facebook to announce the burglary yesterday morning (Sunday) with a photo showing a smashed window where entry was forced.

The post was swiftly followed by another saying: "Fear not, the b******s can’t keep us from opening!

"See you on the beach."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.05am on Sunday, March 17, we received a report of burglary at a premises on King Edwards Bay in Tynemouth.

“It was reported that offenders had forced entry to the property overnight causing damage, before stealing a quantity of alcohol and making off from the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should use the ‘Report’ page of our website or call 101, quoting log number NP-20240317-0260.”
