Southampton might boast the Barclays Premier League's meanest defence, but that did not stop boss Ronald Koeman forcing his squad to sit through a video bloopers reel this week.

Saints thumped Sunderland 8-0 in their biggest win since 1921 at St Mary's last Saturday, but Koeman still managed to compile a dossier of defensive errors.

Koeman's side have rocketed to third in the table, conceding just five goals in eight games, but the taskmaster former Holland defender nevertheless expects more from his squad.

"The players had Monday and Tuesday off, and on Wednesday we showed them some clips from the first 20 minutes against Sunderland," he said.

"That's not how I like us to start at home. They know what happened - it wasn't a good start.

"Sometimes that's hard to talk about because we won 8-0, but we know we can start much better than last weekend.

"One of our big qualities has been organisation. It's the quality you need to win games - clean sheets are important in football.

"It's normal to think maybe that's harsh, to be critical when we win like that, but everyone wants to get better and everyone understands we're just trying to do that.

"My job as coach is to help everyone play as well as they can, but also keep confidence and keep them free to play.

"Football's to be enjoyed, and obviously that's much easier when you win.

"We've got to be ourselves. The players know what we like to do, so we've got to keep going."

Southampton host Stoke at St Mary's on Saturday, with Koeman highlighting Peter Crouch's aerial threat.

The former Barcelona full-back put his defensive line through a series of drills designed specifically to counter the dangers of Stoke's former England striker.

"We had specific training for the defenders this week, defending crosses, because of Peter Crouch," Koeman said.

"That's one of his top qualities, so we have to be ready for that.

"We've had time this week so we need those sorts of sessions to develop our team.

"It's balls into the box, and we need the goalkeeper to come out and command his defence.

"He's a player with a lot of experience. We're not afraid about any player, but you have to respect the qualities of players to prepare yourself.

"He's tall, a good header of the ball.

"If they play long balls to him, then we have to fight for the second ball.

"So we have to be prepared for that."
