PAUL MURRAY is hoping for a busy day in the transfer market.

The Hartlepool United boss has until 5pm today to land players before the loan window closes. The transfer market reopens on January 1.

Murray this week signed centre-half Matteo Lanzoni, the Italian moving on loan from Cambridge.

Last week he got Joe Ironside in from Sheffield United and Adam Cambpell from Newcastle.

“I’m hoping to be busy – but I’ve had no ringbacks yet and I’ve been on the phone since seven this morning! I’m waiting for that call to say, yes it’s a goer,’’ he said.

“It’s proving difficult. I’ve had some players look at it and say they don’t really want to go to the bottom of the Football League – but I don’t want those, I want players who I phone, ask if they want to come and they say yes.

“That’s the sort I’m pursuing at the minute.’’

And with Pools at the foot of the table ahead of Saturday’s visit of leaders Wycombe, Murray admitted: “It’s been so difficult to get players here – it really is and that’s not making up excuses. We are trying to get quality in and Mateo has been on my list a while. With Scotty Harrison going back to Sunderland it’s been a priority to get a centre-half in, and he’s the one I wanted. I’m happy with that.’’
