FIVE of the region’s golfers will be trying to fulfil a dream of playing in this year’s Open Championship at St Andrew’s on Tuesday.
As well as Barnard Castle’s European Tour pro Rob Dinwiddie trying to seal one of the spots on offer at final qualifying from Woburn, Bedale’s highly-rated amateur Daniel Brown will be looking to do the same at Hillside.
At Ayrshire’s Gailes Links track there will be Close House’s Teessider Jonathan Lupton, Northumberland Golf Club’s Andrew Minnikin and Longhirst’s former British amateur champion Garrick Porteous all vying for a place.
There are three spots available at each of the qualifying venues as golfers from around the world look to seal a place at the 144th Open Championship at the home of golf on the Old Course.
