STUART HALL is targeting a rematch with Jamie McDonnell after making a successful return to the ring with a convincing points victory over Edwin Tellez.

Hall, who is a former IBF World Bantamweight champion, won all six rounds against Tellez as he made his Matchroom debut on the undercard of Luke Campbell’s successful WBC lightweight title eliminator in Hull on Saturday night.

The Darlington fighter had not fought for almost ten months following his world-title defeat to Randy Caballero in Monte Carlo, but his weekend workout proved he has lost none of his ring-craft or punching power.

He is hoping to secure a long-term deal with Matchroom and return to the ring in the next couple of months, with his long-term goal a rematch with McDonnell, who beat him when they clashed in an explosive encounter in September 2011.

Since then, McDonnell has gone on to claim the WBA World Bantamweight title, but Hall is hoping he can be persuaded to take on a rematch that would be one of the biggest domestic clashes of the last few years.

“That’s the fight I’ve always wanted, with Jamie McDonnell,” said Hall. “Every time we get close to him, he pulls away again, but he’s had some fantastic wins.

“I just need to get a couple of good wins under my belt, and then we can try to make that fight. He’s done absolutely fantastically, Jamie McDonnell, and I wish him all the best, but I’ll keep chasing him down as much as I can.

“He’s a top lad, Jamie, but it’s business and I think a fight between us would be great. Obviously, I want a rematch because the first one was a beauty, and with both of us getting more experience now, I think it would be an absolute barnstormer.”

Hall stepped up to super bantamweight to take on Tellez at the weekend, and his power and punching speed were always too much for his Nicaraguan opponent.
