DURHAM suffered a dreadful afternoon as superb bowling from Chris Woakes reduced them from 92 for one to 116 for five.

Due to join up with the England squad tomorrow as Ben Stokes' replacement, Woakes took four for 15 in a nine-over second spell.

He is to be replaced by leg-spinner Josh Poysden tomorrow.

All four of Warwickshire's seamers made life very tough for Durham as they added only 77 runs in 33 overs in the session, reaching tea on 123 for five.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby made the breakthrough when he defeated Keaton Jennings' forward push to take out the off stump with the score on 62.

Scott Borthwick scored ten off his first seven balls, but then the runs dried up in the face of relentlessly accurate bowling.

Mark Stoneman was totally bogged down before having his bails trimmed for 36 when playing defensively forward.

Woakes then had Borthwick caught behind and after driving the first four for 12 overs through the covers Jack Burnham shouldered arms once too often. Woakes generally shaped the ball away, but this one came back to hit off stump.

Paul Collingwood fell for two when he sliced a drive to backward point, leaving Michael Richardson and Ryan Pringle to survive until tea.
