DEANDRE YEDLIN will join Newcastle United within the next 24 hours after flying into Tyneside to complete a medical.

Newcastle have agreed a deal with Tottenham for the right-back, with discussions between the two clubs having taken place throughout the week.

The Magpies have been pushing for a permanent deal for the defender, who is valued at around £5m at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham had initially expressed a preference for a loan deal, but Yedlin is understood to have pushed for a permanent transfer, having spent the whole of last season on loan at Newcastle's North-East rivals, Sunderland.

The 23-year-old, who is an established United States international, made 21 Premier League starts for Sunderland last season, and ended the campaign ahead of Billy Jones in the Stadium of Light pecking order.

Sam Allardyce toyed with the idea of making a permanent approach for Yedlin at the start of the summer, but David Moyes opted not to pursue the American after replacing the current England boss on Wearside.

Moyes signed an alternative right-back, Donald Love, from Manchester United, enabling Newcastle to make a move for Yedlin.

Yedlin's arrival will almost certainly pave the way for Daryl Janmaat's departure from Tyneside, with the Holland international not having been involved in either of Newcastle's last two games.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also pushing to sign Brentford midfielder Alan Judge, even though the Irishman is not expected to return from a serious leg injury until late October.
