DAVID MOYES has added a new goalkeeper to his shopping list after learning Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone will be sidelined for at least three months due to injury.

The Black Cats boss has confirmed Sevilla have accepted a £7m offer for midfielder Vicente Iborra but a deal is far from complete because of interest from another Spanish club.

But Moyes, who takes his team to Southampton tomorrow with latest recruit Javier Manquillo involved following his season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, is keen to bring plenty more in.

The addition of a new goalkeeper is something extra, having been told Mannone could require surgery after tearing the ligaments in his elbow.

Moyes said: “It’s quite a severe injury and we are waiting on final assessment to see if he will be operated on. It could be a brace or needed operating on, but it is quite severe. It will be a minimum of three months.

“We will need to bring another goalkeeper in, we have a few days to do so. We are working on other areas as well. It has added to the list a little bit.”

But Moyes is confident England Under-21s international Jordan Pickford, who played against Shrewsbury in midweek in the EFL Cup, can handle the Premier League stage ahead of his third outing at that level tomorrow.

“Jordan is well liked, he is another of the young boys we have talked a lot about,” said Moyes. “He is a young English goalkeeper and young English players draw a lot of attention to a football club.

“We look forward to seeing him in the game, it is not easy for young keepers but I am confident he will be fine. He played well there the other night. The Premier League is a different animal and he will have a chance to do it.”

Moyes revealed he will be assessing the fitness of John O’Shea, Fabio Borini and Jeremain Lens in the Friday training session before determining whether they will figure at St Mary’s.

Even if all three players come through, however, that will not alter his thinking on the transfer front with just five days remaining of the transfer window.

Moyes, who suggested Jan Kirchhoff will be involved in football work on the training ground next week, said: “I would be glad if it can stay open a bit more! I would be one of those at the moment who would like it to stay open to give me more time to get the business done.”

Lamine Kone will also be assessed this afternoon before deciding if he makes the trip to the South Coast, just days after the manager insisted that the defender will not be going anywhere this month.
