DURHAM have completed the signing of South African fast bowler Migael Pretorius for the County Championship.

The 28-year-old who plays his domestic first-class cricket for North West Dragons joins Durham for at least the next three County Championship matches.

The right arm quick earned his maiden call up to the South Africa squad for their test series against Sri Lanka in 2020 having impressed for the Knights with 24 first-class wickets that summer.

Having played 46 first-class cricket matches, Pretorius has claimed 144 red ball wickets with a best of 6/38 and career best match figures of 9/80.

A more than useful lower order batter, he has scored 1153 runs with a highest score of 81*, notching six first-class half centuries.

The right-arm quick made his first-class debut in 2016 for Northerns and has since gone onto play for Titans, Lions, North West, Knights and Free State in South Africa.

Born in Vereeninging, Pretorius has also excelled with the white ball claiming 70 T20 wickets having recently played for franchise teams Pretoria Capitals and Jamaica Tallawahs.

Pretorius said: "I am very excited to join Durham, I can’t wait to get going. It has been a dream of mine to play county cricket and to get the chance to do it for Durham is even better.”

Durham's director of Cricket Marcus North said: "We are pleased to have signed Migael to play for Durham in the County Championship.

“He is a proven performer in South Africa and his success back home has seen him earn an international call up for his national side.

“With Matt Parkinson on loan until the end of July and a number of injuries to our bowling stocks we felt it was important to recruit an overseas bowler in Migael to strengthen our bowling attack.”
