MIGAEL PRETORIUS has extended his stay with Durham to cover the whole of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign.

Durham begin their One-Day Cup programme with a home game against Worcestershire Rapids at Seat Unique Riverside tomorrow, and Pretorius has been named in Ryan Campbell’s 13-man squad for the game.

While the South African initially signed a deal to play in Durham’s three County Championship matches in July, his performances with the red ball have seen him offered a deal to remain in the North-East for the white-ball programme.

Pretorius has agreed to extend his stay, and will therefore be available for the whole of the One-Day Cup campaign. He has played 26 List A games since making his debut in the format in 2015, making List A appearances for North West, Lions and Knights in his homeland and taking 37 wickets with a best of 4-21.

Pretorius is in line to make his List A debut for Durham tomorrow, along with Brandon Glover and Ben McKinney, who have also been selected in the matchday squad.

Paul Coughlin returns to the fold after recovering from the side injury which reoccurred during the Vitality Blast and will make his return to white-ball cricket.

With the Hundred getting under way next week, a number of Durham’s regular senior players will be unavailable. Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson and Bas de Leede will all be representing Northern Superchargers in the Hundred with Nathan Sowter lining up for Oval Invincibles and Ben Raine selected for Manchester Originals.

Worcestershire should provide a stern opening-game test for Durham, with the New Road side only having lost three players to the Hundred - Josh Tounge, Mitchell Stanley and Adam Hose.

Durham signed off from County Championship action with a rain-affected draw against Yorkshire that leaves them with a 40-point lead at the top of the Division Two table with three more four-day games to play in September.

“Whatever happens from here on in, the way we’ve played, we deserve to be well clear at the top,” said Campbell. “We’re happy with our position, and those final three games in September, we play I think the second, third and fourth teams in the table. We’re going to have our destiny in our own hands.

“In the last three games, we haven’t played as well as we’d have wanted. There are times when we’ve been just a bit off the boil. But in saying that, we’ve been good enough to get ourselves out of any messes and, in all honesty, haven’t looked like losing.”
