A car collided with four other vehicles whilst travelling over a bridge earlier this month as police investigate a possible hit and run incident.
A silver Peugeot 207 was travelling northbound on the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland just before 12:40pm on December 9 when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into 4 other vehicles.
The driver of the Peugeot fled the area on foot before police arrival.
Emergency services converged at the scene but whilst no significant injuries were reported, the vehicles involved suffered significant damage.
Northumbria Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage as they launch an investigation into the incident.
The force said: "Anyone with information is asked to report to police using the ‘Report’ page on the Northumbria Police website or call 101 quoting reference number: NP-20231209-0452.
"Members of the public can also share information anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visiting their website."
