A popular County Durham car boot sale has been cancelled due to the weather.

Organisers behind the Seaham car boot sale confirmed the event was called off today (April 28).

They added boot fairs in Chester-le-Street and Tranwell have also been cancelled due to the weather and forecast.

Nobles Promotions Ltd announced on social media: “Unfortunately, due to the weather and forecast for the rest of the day, Seaham, Tranwell and Chester-le-Street car boot fairs are cancelled.

“The weather in Wales is fine so we are open at Rhyl as normal.

“Hopefully we will get some decent weather soon.”

The Seaham car boot fair sale held its first event of the year on March 23.

The event proved very successful as crowds flocked to the sale on farm fields off the B1287.

The organisers said they were “happy” with the way the opening weekend went.

At the time of the first event, a spokesperson talked about how weather can have a “big impact” on the event.

They said: “We were lucky with the weather which is always a good thing. The car boot fair has been developed over 25 years and has gradually built into what it is now.

“The forecast can have a big impact on us, if it is bad people do not prepare by loading their cars etc and the worst thing is if the forecast turns out to be wrong and the expected rain or showers don’t arrive!”
